FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?
It’s simple: Register for a training camp, check out what to bring to class, and show up with your happy pants on.

How young can my puppy be to join class?
Your puppy can be as young as 7 weeks to participate.

“The Primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life… For this reason, the AVSAB believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated. In general, puppies can start puppy socialization classes as early as 7-8 weeks of age.”
– American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior

What is the vaccination policy?
“Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first de-worming. They should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class.”
– American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior

What are the methods being taught?
We use reward-based training, as we believe it is the most effective way to teach new behavior.

Where are classes held?
We train outdoors so that you and your dog can learn the skills you need to to deal with everyday distractions.

What is a class like?
Class is fun and relaxed. You’ll get to practice, make mistakes, get individual troubleshooting and feedback, have fun, succeed, and share your experience in a positive and supportive community.

What is expected of participants?
You are expected to practice with your dog daily using the techniques you’ve learned in classes, and to be as consistent as possible. The amount of time you practice is up to you, and your results will be a reflection of your commitment to the process.

What should I bring to class?
• A flat collar that won’t slip over your dog’s neck
• A 6-foot leash
• A harness (non-corrective) that allows your dog to pull
• A proper treat pouch clipped to your waistband or belt such that it’s easily accessible and won’t drop your kibble/treats
• Sunscreen
• Rain gear
• Water
• Whatever you and your dog need to be comfortable

Can I bring my dog if it has social issues?
Our group classes are for social dogs. If you have a dog that exhibits behavioural issues (e.g. fear, aggression, anxiety), please book a private lesson with Jorgie to best assess your dog’s needs and create an appropriate behavioral plan.

Can a friend/spouse/child come to watch?
Only one dog and one handler may attend class. Furthermore, the same handler must attend all classes.

Can I get a refund?
When you reserve a spot in one of our programs your dog is considered enrolled. Please ensure your availability to participate as we do not offer refunds. Should you miss a class, Jorgie offers private make-up sessions at the rate of $50/hour plus travel time. Please contact Jorgie to set up a location and meeting time that works.
